Republican Group
大和 タケル (Takeru Yamato)

The Protagonist of the series. He is very courageous and pilots a gold Shield Liger, the Gold Liger.

Has fought with Takeru, but became a member of the Republican group. Pilots a Dibison. Takes charge of the Mad Thunder cockpit.

Speaks with a Kansai dialect. He pilots a Bear Fighter that has had an enormous artillery unit installed on its back. He takes charge of the engine compartment in the Mad Thunder.

He wears glasses and pilots a Pteras. He uses a computer and takes charge of strategy analysis in the Mad Thunder's bridge.

The girl in the Republican group. She does not pilot a Zoid. Embarks on the Made Thunder bridge.

A rough sort of boy who was thought to be a spy for the Empire.
Imperial Group
天竜 修羅 (Shuura Tenryuu)

The leader of the Imperial group. He uses many cruel maneuvers, but eventually is inspired to fight fairly because of Takeru's righteousness. In turning over to fight fairly, he admonishes any fighter who does not also do so.

Pilots the remodeled leg section of the Iron Kong Tank Version for the Imperial group.

The karate boy of the Imperial group. He has a special grapple ability which is reflected within the Zoid simulator. He raised the grapple efficiency of the Blue Saurer by attaching the Iron Kong arm to the Death Saurer.

Member of the Imperial group who at some point got close to Takeru and then brainwashed Hidemaro through hypnotism. The attack was to keep Takeru from fighting against his comrade so the Death Saurer could be remodelled. Attacks with a yo-yo.

Disguised himself as the chief of a zoo(?) to trap Takeru and spy on the Republican group. He is very crafty. He pilots a Great Sabre.

A Republican pilot who is righteous and fights grandly. However, he was pushed out of rank by Takeru in the Zoid simulation battle games. He pilots a black Shield Liger, the "Black Liger."
Other Characters
森田技師 (Engineer Morita)

Hitomi's older brother. He is an advisor to the Republican group and supports Takeru.

Hitomi and her brother's grandfather, Dr. Morita is the chief organism laboratory mechanic. He helps develop Zoids.

Speaks with a northern (Kanto) accent. He's a genius and his personality changes drastically when he is piloting. He pilots a Gojulas that does not have an energy control device attached.

A merchant who develops super up-to-date weapons to sell to warring countries. His life was working on how to develop Zoids, but he kept an eye on Dr. Morita who was doing the same and first completed a remodelled Death Saurer, the "Death Diver." Pilots a Dead Border to collect combat data and challenge Takeru.

A Zoid lover who establishes the school's Zoid club. Using old tires, in three months, he built an enormous Ultrasaurus in the schoolyard. At first he didn't like Takeru, but after Takeru protects the Ultrasaurus, he opens his heart and becomes Takeru's friend.

A teacher at school and the advisor of the Zoids club. Engineer Morita seems to like her.
